Next time you’re taking a swim in the Lido (only 10 days of this season left, but hey, who’s counting?) you could well be sharing the pool with a Channel Swimming legend, our very own Jim Boucher. Not only has he crossed it solo once – more than most swimmers can ever dream of doing, [...]

Channel attempt
One of our 2010 FOGL recruits, Hugh Thacker unfortunately didn’t succeed in his Channel attempt earlier this month, despite a truly valiant effort.
We are sorry Hugh didn’t achieve the “Mount Everest” of swimming, but really pleased for him that his fundraising has been remarkable and he’s enjoyed the experience….and redicovered our lovely Lido.
We look forward [...]
IoM to NI swim anyone?
It may seem incredible to many but there are some FOGLs for whom swimming the English Channel and pounding up and down the Lido just isn’t enough exercise (or challenge, or cold, or whatever else it is that pops into the minds of these guys). This weekend FOGLs Jim Boucher and Rory Fitzgerald will be [...]
Finding the Lido again after all these years
Newly recruited FOGL, Hugh Thacker tells us how he’s got involved again with the Lido after 25 years away and how it’s playing a key part in his training for a solo attempt at swimming the Channel this September in aid of 2 charities.

Lido Opening Day Channel Relay Charity Swim
It wasn’t easy to guess what the weather had in store for us, nor indeed who would turn up and when, to add to the confirmed list of willing Lido supporters in pursuit of the 35,000 metres. As it was, the weather was kind and we had sunny spells most of the day. The swimming started [...]
Charity Swim on Opening Day (1st May)
FOGL are organising a cumulative swim to clock up the Channel distance (35km) during the 1st day of the 2010 Lido season in aid of the Phyllis Tuckwell Charity. As the Lido seems to be a hot-bed of accomplished, aspiring and merely admiring Channel swimmers, we hope that through the cummulative swimming efforts of all [...]
Another FOGL completes Channel crossing
It would seem Guildford Lido is a hotbed of Channel swimming talent. FOGLette Emma France completed her first solo crossing in the early hours of the morning. Huge congratulations to you Emma, we look forward to hearing all the details when you’ve recovered.
A Lido reunion event for all FOGLs Channel swimmers must surely be in [...]
Another Channel relay success from the Lido Legends
FOGLs Jim Boucher, Rory Fitzgerald and Phil Newman completed their Channel relay at 1am this morning. Many congratulations to you all, yet another great achievement. What’s next?
Lido Legends are in the Channel today
Jim Boucher and his merry band of Lido Legends (well, 2 of them to be precise) are doing their Channel relay crossing today after several delays waiting for the weather conditions to improve and make it possible. Best of luck to you all.
