Father of 3, Hugh Thacker is swimming the Channel in September this year in aid of two charities that support people affected by and research into Chron’s and colitis. Hugh’s niece Holly has been afflicted by Chron’s disease since childhood and is the inspiration for Hugh’s challenge. Hugh became involved with FOGL through the opening day charity swim organised by FOGL Jim Boucher on May 1st and is now an enthusiastic convert to swimming at the Lido as part of his t
raining this summer. He can be seen from 6.30am every Monday and Friday ploughing up and down the lengths.
We will be following Hugh’s progress throughout the season here on this page and are pleased to be supporting him in his fundraising efforts. For more details of Hugh’s challenge, Holly’s story and to donate, please visit www.hughsbigswim.com

Sadly for Hugh, his Channel attempt wasn’t successful, despite a very valiant effort. We congrtulate him though for his fabulous efforts all year and the amazing fundraising he’s achieved for his charities. Just think Hugh, you can get down to the lido next season purely for pleasure. See you next season!

Best of luck Hugh, only sorry I can’t come along and swim with you in the morning sessions, unfortunately I’m hard at work by 7am!
Look forward to hearing more about your progress this summer and definitely cheering you on in September.
