Archives for June 2010

Have you told us what you think?

This time next year, as you may or may not be aware, the Lido will be run under a new contractor. We want to play our part in making this change a positive one for the Lido and we’ve been invited to contribute FOGLs ideas on service levels.
We’ve heard from many members over the past year following [...]

Hot weekend ahead

The forecast is looking perfect for the weekend and we want everyone to come along and enjoy the Lido to its max.  For those liking a quieter swim than we get on hot busy days, remember that on Friday and Monday mornings the pool’s open from 6.30am – 9am.  Get up early, enjoy the Lido’s [...]

BBQ cancelled

Unfortunately the decision has been made to cancel the BBQ due to a low number of ticket sales.  This is disappointing, however, thanks to those who did support the event, and of course refunds for your tickets are available from Lido reception.

Timetable changes

Due to school bookings, please be aware of the following changes to the timetable:
Friday 9th July, Early Morning Swimming will run from 6.30am – 8.00am and Public Swimming will be available from 12.00pm – 6.30pm.

Govt end free swimming

Last week the government announced that the free swimming programme for the over 6o’s that the previous government introduced, will end in July, not as was widely anticipated, March 2011.  As soon as FOGL have further information as to how this will affect Lido swimmers who have benefited thus far from this scheme, over the remainder of the [...]

Surrey in Summer

Some lovely pictures have been posted on our Facebook group showing people enjoying their Surrey summers in the 1930s and ’40s. Picture no. 5 shows two ladies in the sun at the Lido.

Summer Solstice swim

Come  and celebrate the start of summer in a uniquely Lido-esque way with an early morning, Summer Solstice Swim on Monday 21st June – and you don’t even have to be one of Guildford’s pagans or druids to enjoy it, the pool’s open to all.  We can’t manage a sunrise opening, but swim into summer from 6.30am.

Great East Swim latest

For anyone  going to this weekend’s Great East Swim (we know there’s at least one Lido regular going) or even contemplating it for next year, here’s the latest details:

There’s lots to see and do and these events are for swimmers of all abilities, not just good ones!

IoM to NI swim anyone?

It may seem incredible to many but there are some FOGLs for whom swimming the English Channel and pounding up and down the Lido just isn’t enough exercise (or challenge, or cold, or whatever else it is that pops into the minds of these guys). This weekend FOGLs Jim Boucher and Rory Fitzgerald will be [...]

BBQ tickets on sale now!

We’re pleased to say that the tickets for the summer BBQ are now on sale from Lido reception. Tickets cost £7 (£6 for season-ticket holders) each and we’d love to see as many FOGLs support this once very popular social event.
More details can be found on the newly revamped official Lido website

See you there!
