Evening sessions now at an end till next year

We’ve had notification that due to the poor light in the evenings, the evening sessions are at an end for this season. Here’s looking forward to next year!

No filming this year…..but here’s hoping for next year…

Sadly the producer of the proposed film featuring Mark Foster and the Lido has made the tough decision not to go ahead with filming this year due to not being able to raise sufficient funds. We’re naturally disappointed, but wish Nicola and her team all the very best for next year and remain as keen as [...]

End of free swimming for over 60s…but here’s an offer

As we probably all know, one of the immediate casualties of the tightening of government spending is the closure at the end of the month of the free swimming programme for the over 60s around the country, which of course affects the Lido. However, Spectrum management have announced that the over 60s can swim at [...]

A piece of history

We’ve just come across a fascinating piece of Lido history, on of all places, Surrey Chambers of Commerce website, an unlikely place to find Lido history! “Things are going swimmingly for one of the more unusual members of Surrey Chambers of Commerce, Guildford City Swimming Club. Founded in 1889 by a local youth Maurice Quittenden, the [...]

FOGL AGM

Details and minutes from last night’s FOGL AGM will be available here sometime over the next couple of weeks or so once we’ve had time to produce and post them up.  Any delays are purely down to us all being rather busy in our day jobs and/or getting in a bit of holiday over the coming [...]

Want to know a secret?

Ok, not exactly a secret, but bet we’ve got your attention…..although the early morning sessions are catching on, it’s still possible to join what we can almost pretend is a “secret” swimming experience in the Lido.  Having enjoyed an early swim yesterday morning from 6.30am, and still there at 8am in what by then had [...]
