South London Swimming Club based in Tooting Bec recently had its SLSC v Serpentine Gala and it’s been suggested that similar galas might be organised with Guildford Lido participating with a team. Well, we’ve taken up the invite and Jim is currently getting a team ready for March 2010 for a Gala that will include 2 teams from the Serpentine Club, 2 from SLSC and 1 from Parliament Hill Lido.

The gala format is very simple, albeit yet to be finalised for March:

• 33yds for each of the four strokes,
• freestyle and medley relays,
• two age groups – over and under 40 plus a 12 person squadron.

The event will be held in Tooting Bec Lido, which as you may know is unheated and open all year. The water will be starting to warm up towards the end of March, but will still be chilly for those not used to cold water swimming.

The date is being finalised and we hope to have more details in the next few weeks. At this stage we’d like to know if anyone from FOGL is interested in participating or can identify others who’d want to join in. Please get in touch if you’re interested or would like more information.
